Hi everyone! I am really
excited to be writing a guest post for Sarah’s blog while she is on
vacation. I’m Jamie and I blog at From
Couch to Ironwoman (http://fromcouchtoironwoman.com). The primary purpose of my blog is to
document the journey that my husband and I are taking toward competing in an
Ironman in 2014. Ironically, Sarah and I
live in the same area, but we have never met!
Even more ironic, we will be running in the Reach the Beach: New Jersey relay
in October together, along with our husbands.
I guess we should meet sometime soon, huh?!
Since Sarah is on
vacation, and my husband and I just returned home from vacation, I thought that
I would write a post about staying active while on vacation.
Even before my husband,
Mike, and I started running (and later training for triathlons) some part of
our vacations were active. While
vacations are meant to help you relax, unwind and feel rejuvenated I think it
is important to stay active.
One of the easiest
activities that you can do while on vacation is walking. While on our honeymoon we went on a walking
tour of Key West, Florida and it was a lot of fun! Typically, we walk a lot during vacation,
whether it is around town or sightseeing.
Our favorite activity
to do while on vacation is hiking. Our
most recent vacation was to Maine, to visit my parents, and we went hiking
twice. My brother and his friends were
in Maine at the same time as us this year and we did a hike that Mike and I had
already done before. Actually, it was
the first hike we ever did and Mike commented on how out of shape we were back
then compared to now, amazing how swimming, biking and running has changed our
lives!
Obviously as
triathletes we have to get in some quality workouts while on vacation. Unfortunately, we didn’t bring our bikes this
time but I can’t wait to bring them next year!
We do run while on vacation and this time we were able to do some open
water swimming.
Even if you aren’t a
runner or triathlete there are so many ways to be active while on vacation and
these are just some ideas. We have also
kayaked, climbed up numerous lighthouses and played golf (well, Mike did I just
walked around). One of the next things
that I want to try while on vacation is stand up paddle board, SUP. It looks like a lot of fun!
Whatever you do, just
make sure you enjoy it and have fun! You are on vacation, after all.
What are some ways that
you stay active while on vacation?

Thanks for having me write a guest post! I hope your 8 miles went well!
