Weekend Wine-ing

The Hubs and Me at a concert last weekend
Everyone knows I love my wine!  I swear I'd be at 120 pounds again in three weeks if I just stopped have a bottle a glass or two on an every other day occasion.  I have actually cut back a ton on alcohol consumption this summer and it is helping to tilt the scale back the other way.  Regardless, let it be known to the whole wide world that I love wine almost as much as I love running.

I've been known to pose with many bottles of wine!  We are 'just friends'
What you may not know about me is that my husband and I are also amateur wine makers.  We moved about 2 years ago to a town right outside the Finger Lakes Wine Region and fell in love with the local wines.  We decided to start making our own versions soon after the move.  In the past two years we have made quite a few different wines we have enjoyed with all of our friends.  As you can imagine, we are very popular right around the time we bottle :) It's about a three month process for most of our wines since we use primarily concentrates and it has been so much fun learning to tweak our process along the way.  Anyway, today was bottling day for our 2 summer batches!!!
We generally make a red and a white and we concentrate on sweeter fruit wines.  Some of them turn out sweeter than others and most of them have a very high alcohol content for fruit wines.  What can I say???  When you love what you do.....  you do it well!

After a long day of work all I wanted to do was come home and run.  I know...  The hubby bottled the wine this afternoon while I worked and I didn't want to come home and drink it all.  Weird right?  Given my great appreciation for wines and their effects, I was surprised too.  So I convinced the Hubby to run with me even though he could run at my pace blindfolded with one foot.  I tried to make him run a route I run by myself but of course he changed the rules and the route whenever he felt like it.  He even added a little extra curve at the end just to make me wince.  Regardless, I ran faster than usual on a 4.3 mile run and I got home happy and felt terrific.

This year we made a white cranberry, peach, and green apple Riesling and an Orange, Passion fruit Grenache Rose.

We ate dinner as soon as we got home and then busted open the chilled bottle of our white wine.

So just in case you were wondering what I was doing tonight to celebrate my successful run, Here it is:  I'm sitting on the couch, enjoying our first glass of our Summer Sparkler.

Oh, I never did fold that laundry either :)
